Fellow Scouters: The Friends of Scouting 2012 campaign Starts now!

As you may know, Friends of Scouting is the yearly fundraising campaign that supports adult training educational materials upkeep and salaries for in-council camps, Scout Shop and Council office salaries, unit records and support, and many other costs associated with a scouts experience.

We need everyone's support and assistance in the 2012 campaign, and we are excited about this year's new developments.

  • Unit FOS Coordinators are needed for each unit. We would also like to have one individual identified who can speak to the value of scouting in their life or in the lives of their family.
  • FOS Presenters in our district will help each Coordinator accomplish their FOS goal. If anyone is interested in becoming an FOS Presenter, please let us know.
  • Sign up at Roundtable. We will have a sheet available to complete this information. All FOS presentations should be completed before March 31, 2012
  • The good news is that this year's campaign asks for the same level of giving as last year: one scout for one year is $150.
  • Friends of Scouting Shoulder Patches will be available as an incentive to give. The limited edition 2012 Friends of Scouting Shoulder Patches are available in different colors. The red bordered patch is available for an FOS gift of $150; blue bordered patches for a gift of $365, or one dollar a day for a year; and white bordered patches are only for FOR presenters (incentive for you to be one!)

Please determine the individuals from your Unit who will act as the following persons for the 2012 campaign; fill in the attached flyer and bring this information back to roundtable, or send it to the District DE Morgan Rubenacker.

Friends of Scouting Campaign Benchmarks

A successful fund-raising campaign will have an inspiring kickoff and a festive victory celebration, but the planning for funding your council is a year-round effort. We continue to highlight those things that councils do or should be doing to ensure a positive result. Look here each month for tips of what should be on your work schedule for FOS success.

What should you be working on NOW for your campaign?

If you are kicking off your campaign in November or December:

  • Community Campaign leaders or campaign managers have met in advance of (or immediately after) the kickoff with all campaign workers who could not attend to orientate them, secure their personal gifts, and deliver their enrollment kits.
  • Invitation lists for the January report meeting have been prepared. Speakers and/or guests for the report meeting have been confirmed. A draft agenda has been sent to all speakers and/or guests.
  • District report meetings begin.
  • Weekly staff report meetings have begun.
  • Campaign report timing and format have been determined and weekly (at least) reports have begun.
  • Dates for 100 percent of Family Campaign presentations have been set.
  • 10 percent to 25 percent of Family Campaign presentations have been held.
  • Campaign managers have met with Family Campaign leaders to determine if the campaign is on track.
  • Family Campaign phone-a-thon dates have been set and locations secured.
  • Warm-up letters for January family presentation dates have been sent.

If you are kicking off your campaign in January or February:

  • Community Campaign personnel (chairperson, majors, captains, workers) are recruited, have been trained, and have made their personal gifts.
  • Prospect and evaluation meeting has been held. New prospects have been cleared.
  • Invitations for the kickoff have been sent to all campaign personnel. Dignitaries, speakers, and/or guests for the kickoff have been confirmed. A draft agenda has been sent to all dignitaries, speakers, and guests.
  • Pledge cards, brochures, enroller kits, and other materials needed for the kickoff have been printed, sorted, and organized.
  • Family Campaign personnel (area chairpersons, presenters, and unit coordinators) have been recruited and trained.
  • Dates for 50 percent of presentations have been set (100 percent of presentations set by year-end).
